The Lublin Economy
Is it worthwhile investing in the Lublin Region? What are the conditions for the potential investors? What are the main economic assets of the Region and its perspectives for the future? What is life like in Lublin and its vicinity? Answers to all those questions you will find in our website. Here is the basic information upon the city and the area.
In the Lublin Metropolitan Area, the enterprise sector is mainly located around large urban agglomerations, the biggest of which is naturally Lublin. In total, there are about 57 000 business entities registered in the LMA region, which constitutes 40% of all companies located in the Lublin Region. The majority, as many as 96% of them, are private enterprises. The main directions of investment involve trade and repair services, energy, water and gas production and supply, education, industry and services sectors.
Over 70% of the foreign capital comes from Germany, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The largest investors are: Perła Browary Lubelskie Joint Stock Co., HELISECO Ltd., ROTO FRANK Ltd., Faelbud Joint Stock Co., Nicols Poland Ltd., Aliplast Ltd., and Chemical Products Manufacturer Permedia Joint Stock Co. Some of the companies with foreign capital registered in the LMA are owned by entrepreneurs who invested over USD 1 m USD, and can be found on the list created by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency Joint Stock Co. in Warsaw.
Business entities listed in the REGON register:
- total - 59 062
- public sector - 1 899
- private sector - 57 163
EU funds play an important role in the development of the Lublin agglomeration. Therefore, their effective use has a considerable influence on the rise of competitiveness and innovativeness of an enterprise, and consequently boosts the Region's economic development and increases opportunities of employment.
The Forms of Aid Granted by the EU for the Lublin Province:
- Human Capital Operational Programme - € 435.16 m;
- Operational Programme Development of Eastern Poland - € 2 099.73 m;
- Regional Operational Programme for the Lublin Province 2007-2013 - € 1 156 m;
- funding of contests from the ROP for LV in the year 2009: over PLN 2 b, 466 m of which were allocated to activities supporting enterprise and innovation.
Apart from traditional sectors such as food processing, the priority investment sectors identified in the LMA are: technologically advanced production, specialized services centres and renewable energy production.
The LMA has got great conditions for the development of new generation power engineering based on thermal springs, underground coal gasification system, solar energy and biomass.
A high rate of educated youth, relatively low labour costs in the LMA, strongly developed higher education sector and the availability of modern office space constitute strong arguments for foreign investors interested in establishing BPO centres. Lublin has got over 60 000 sq m of available office space and there are plans to extend it to another 70 000 sq m.
In the nearest future, good conditions for development are to be found in the machinery sector. This is favoured by an appropriate scientific and research base and access to qualified labour force.
Due to competitive real estate prices and their accessibility, logistics has been ranked among the LMA high-potential sectors. Recreation and entertainment are also prospective areas of the LMA development, including business tourism.
